I remember as a young lady reading this scripture for the first time. Something came alive in me. Faith was being activated in me so many years ago as a young believer. I had no idea at the time what life would hold for me but I knew who held my life.
Scripture says Mary was blessed because she believed that there would be a fulfillment of those things spoken to her by the Lord. I wonder in the moment if she believed and was a little scared? I am not sure about you, but I have great faith until I really, really need to engage my faith muscles. Even years ago as my marriage felt like it was falling a part, God had a plan and I needed to believe Him. Believing God seemed so simple until I pondered my own dreams and impossibilities.
“Blessed (spiritually fortunate and favored by God) IS SHE WHO BELIEVED AND CONFIDENTLY TRUSTED that there would be a fulfillment of the things that were spoken to her from the Lord.”
I have always been inspired by Mary and Elizabeth’s stories’ of faith. There are so many many treasures to excavate in this chapter but for the sake of this writing, I will focus on Mary.
Why did God choose Mary?
Why this story?
This announcement from Gabriel went against nature and reason, yet Mary believed, without objecting or asking for a sign. This type of announcement had come before in scripture of a pending birth to other women (Sarah, and Hannah) but these women were all married. Mary was only betrothed. Not married. Still a virgin.
This story for me is MORE than just the story of a young lady getting pregnant.
It’s about the impossibilities of our circumstances.
It’s about the faith to believe.
Its about the favor of the Lord.
And its about the grace to accomplish what God has called us to.
Reconnecting Lives is a ministry to see marriages made whole again from devastating circumstances. RLM is for ANY marriage but specifically marriages who are involved in ministry.
Mark and I have been pastors for over twenty years. We have survived the trial of betrayal and the grace and favor of God to rebuild our marriage. God has reconnected our lives but we could not sit back and just ask God to fix our brokenness. We had to actively participate in the process. We had to believe that God was able to heal our marriage and then believe that He would empower us to become healers. By His power and through His strength we have reconnected our lives to each other and God has reconnected our lives back to ministry.
When we believed, there was a fulfillment of those things spoken by the Lord.
Our betrayal may be different than your betrayal. Our circumstance may be completely different than your circumstance, but brokenness is brokenness.
And brokenness hurts.
Or our story may be just like yours. Whatever your case, our belief and hope is that our story will inspire you to believe.
We want to believe with you that your marriage can heal. We believe that God can walk you through your journey. And we believe that more ministry is available to you on the other side.
At this typing, according to Barna studies, 64% of youth pastors and 57% of pastors struggle with pornography currently or in the past. We were part of that statistic. Pornography invaded our marriage, our family, the pulpit and we thought it would not only destroy our marriage, our family but also our ministry.
Sadly, pornography use increases the marital infidelity rate by more than 300 percent. But our marriage survived. It took counseling, it took accountability and it took rebuilding trust.
But we have come out on the other side.
So what is your impossible circumstances?
